Nepal registered their second win in the SAFF U20 Women’s Football Championship with a commanding 7-0 victory over Sri Lanka in Dhaka on Monday.
Forward Meena Deuba netted a brilliant hat trick, leading Nepal’s attacking charge. Purnima Rai added a brace, while Saritanath and Samickhya Magar chipped in with a goal each to complete a dominant outing for the young Nepali side.
The win strengthens Nepal’s position in the four-nation tournament, which features Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.
As per the tournament format, each team plays two rounds of matches, and the team with the highest points at the end will be declared champions.
After three matches, hosts Bangladesh lead the standings with nine points, followed by Nepal with six points, Bhutan with three, and Sri Lanka yet to open their account.
Nepal will now face Sri Lanka once again in their first match of second round on July 17, hoping to secure a big win and keep their title hopes alive.
